Scripture Reading: 1 Tim. 2:1-6

Text:

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” (1 Tim. 2:1)

Now, by the grace of God, we are entering the realm of promotion. Although the promotion is taking place now, I assure you that in the name of Jesus, we will remain promoted. We are going to be promoted to the level and realm of intercessors.

What is intercession?

  • A selfless act of going in-between, mediating, or intervening on behalf of someone through prayers to God.
  • A spiritual responsibility taken on by believers to free the lost or the hurting.
  • It is an act of taking the needs of another person(s) to God in prayers, whether it be financial, spiritual, emotional, health-related, or something else.

Job of intercessors:

  • Intercessors enter spiritual warfare, going to the battlefield to defend and protect a member of their company from being injured or to release them from captivity. They enter God’s heart through their petitions to prevent families, individuals, and nations from destruction (Ezek. 22:30).
  • Intercessors are the ones who make things happen in the realm of the spirit and then translate them into the physical.
  • They set the captive free without physically entering the prison yard or appealing to the captors.

Examples of Intercessors:

  1. Moses (Exo. 32:11-14) – Pleaded with God after the people made a golden calf.
  2. Samuel (1 Sam. 7:1-5) – Pleaded that God would forgive the sins of the Israelites.
  3. Esther, the Queen (Esther 7:1-10)
  4. The Church (Acts 12:5-8) – The church interceded for Peter.
  5. Jesus (John 17:9-26; Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25)
  6. The Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:26-27)

For us to get to this highly exalted realm, we, ourselves, must be:

  1. Ready to be in one accord (Acts 1:14, 2:1, 4:32-35)
  2. Filled with the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:26; Acts 4:31)
  3. Put on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:11-18)
  4. Have a pure heart and clean hands (Psalm 24:3-6).

When you become an intercessor:

  • Firstly, the bible says it is good (1 Tim. 2:3)
  • You begin to rejoice in seeing prayers answered.
  • You build up spirit muscle and act in authority.
  • You enter into the realm of fellowshipping with God.
  • Your own joy becomes restored (Job 42:10).

Now, let’s do Intercession:

Pray for the barren, sick, poor, mentally unstable, persecuted, spiritually oppressed, confused, and jobless.
