Take a moment to read and digest the entire Deuteronomy 28:1-14 slowly, then accept my appeal and encouragement, as God’s children, to give obedience a chance so you can experience these realities of open heaven – which bring about a real turnaround in life.

Staying within the context of Deuteronomy 28, one could claim that the open heaven mentioned in verse 12 results from obedience. That is, open heaven is God’s response to human response – the blessings of obedience. We affirm this claim in verses 1, 2, and 9. I pray that God will grant you and me the grace to obey His precepts, so we can begin to enjoy the goodies in His treasury.

Text:
“The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

Dearly beloved of God, the Lord has some blessings bearing your name. Halleluiah!

Examining this verse closely, we see some of the ways God responds to our obedience:

  1. God blesses us not from the earth but from heaven, where His storehouse (God’s money bank, hospital, food bank, house of mercy and favor, classroom for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, etc.) is situated. So, anywhere you find yourself on the face of the earth, and you can look up and see heaven, your blessings are there. Heaven does not run out of blessings, praise God. The psalmist knows this, and he says in chapter 121 that he will lift his eyes to the hills from whence comes his help. If our help and blessings were to come from the people on earth, they could pull out any time. However, our blessings are coming from heaven. Praise God.
  2. From this opened heaven, God gives rain. Rain provides our vegetation with what it needs for our survival and prosperity. This should gladden our hearts, because it means where we are now is not our final destination. God intends to prosper us. Hallelujah! Some of us may feel stuck or limited right now and even feel that prayers are being delayed. Wait, rain is about to start pouring upon you for ease and peace. Yes, you are going to experience rain from heaven, in Jesus’ name. God will bring you rain. God will water your life.
  3. God gives this rain in season, when heaven opens.
    • This means God will send our blessing in a timely, divinely approved fashion. In other words, God will show up on time for us. Rain comes when the ground is ready; you, too, must be ready with your obedience to God’s instructions, and then God will give rain. I pray for students, workers, business people, the retired, Youths, everyone; you will not miss your season, in Jesus’ name.
  4. When we are under open heaven, God blesses the works of our hands. This suggests that God does not do magic. He expects us to plant seeds that rain will fall upon; get to work, and do something. In other words, God will “do life with us, not for us. Make sure you are planting, so that God will have something to rain upon when rain is needed. God needs us to take steps of faith, and He will get us to the Promised Land.
    • Did you want to start a business but never did? Please, start taking a step towards it now. That is your planting. God promises to rain upon that planting, bringing about fruitfulness. The ordinary will turn to extraordinary when heaven opens upon what you are doing. When God touches the labor of your hands, small becomes big and more than sufficient. Go ahead, take a step; God is waiting to bless you from heaven.
    • If God had just made Goliath have a heart attack, it would have been easy, but no, God wanted David to take a step of faith: take some stones, get your catapult, turn around, fling, and God will take care of the rest.
  5. Another interesting part of this promise of God, if obedience is our response to His precepts, is that we will lend to many nations. This is to say that God’s motive behind opening His heaven to bless us is to put us in the position to help others, participate in the improvement of our communities, church, family, etc. This is what is meant when He says, “… You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.” God wants us to make an impact and be a blessing. We will get there, in Jesus’ name. Helping others is expected to become our habit; that is why God will bless us. “A giving life is a blessed life.” A taking life is not. Let these words encourage you to live a giving life, because heaven is opening upon you, in Jesus’ name.

In conclusion, please get it into your mind that when God opens His storehouse (treasury), no one on earth can shut it. God is ready to rain His blessings upon you on time; all He needs on your part is for you to live a life of obedience. May God help us all.

Go ahead; start enjoying open heavens, in Jesus’ name.
